TPLO Surgery

Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy, advanced cruciate surgery performed in-house by Dr Peter.

If your dog has a torn ACL (cruciate ligament) or an unstable knee, we offer TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) surgery in-house. Performed by Dr Peter, this advanced technique changes the mechanics of the knee so your dog can bear weight comfortably again, with a typically rapid recovery compared to traditional techniques.

What it costs

TPLO procedures range from approximately $4,500–$5,900, including the surgery, a day in hospital, post-op medications, follow-up checks and repeat X-rays eight weeks after the surgery. See our price list for other orthopaedic options, including extracapsular cruciate surgery.

The day of surgery

Before surgery

Your dog is fasted overnight and admitted between 8–9am. We perform a pre-surgical assessment including blood work and X-rays, place an IV catheter and prepare a tailored anaesthetic plan.

During surgery

The surgeon makes an incision, levels the tibial plateau and stabilises the bone with a plate and screws. The surgery typically takes between 1 and 2.5 hours, depending on the complexity and the size of the dog.

After surgery and home care

Your dog recovers from the anaesthetic in-hospital with full pain management, and most go home the same day. You'll receive medication instructions and activity restrictions, plus scheduled follow-up visits at 4 days, 10–14 days and 8 weeks post-op.

Wondering whether TPLO is right for your dog? Book a consultation and we'll examine the knee and talk through all the options.
