Annual health checks
Dogs and cats age on average five to eight times faster than humans, so significant health changes can happen in a short time. A thorough check-up at least once a year lets us pick up problems early, when they're easiest to treat.
Every annual health check includes a full physical examination:
- General demeanour and activity
- Signs of lameness or pain
- Teeth and gums
- Eyes, ears and nose
- Heart and lungs
- Abdominal palpation
- Lymph nodes and skin
It's also the perfect time to chat about nutrition, weight and any behavioural concerns.
Vaccination
Vaccines present the body with a dead or inert form of an infectious agent so the immune system builds a memory of it. Most adult pets are vaccinated annually alongside their full health check.
- Puppies are vaccinated at 6–8, 10–12 and 14–16 weeks against canine parvovirus, distemper, adenovirus and kennel cough.
- Kittens receive vaccinations at similar intervals, protecting against cat flu, feline panleukopenia and FIV.
- Rabbits can be vaccinated against viral haemorrhagic disease at 8 and 12 weeks, then every six months.
