Meet Our Team

Peter Sorensen

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (BVSc, MANZCVS (Surg))

Peter has lived on the Mornington Peninsula for most of his life and went to Mt Eliza primary and secondary school.  He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2008 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and then started his veterinary career as a mixed animal practitioner working on the Peninsula and then later to dairy country in the rolling hills of Gippsland. After a few years he gained a special interest in small animal surgery and studied further to complete his membership examinations in small animal surgery in 2013. After passing these exams he and his wife Libby travelled to England and worked as locum vets at various veterinary clinics throughout the country for almost one year. Having enjoyed this time of travel and gaining a range of veterinary experience at home and abroad, he decided to settle back at home on the Mornington Peninsula. His professional interests include small animal surgery and reptile medicine. Outside of work Peter enjoys getting outdoors particularly to go cycling, fishing or tending to the vege patch and garden. He has several special pets including Becky a cheeky Jack Russell and Spike the bearded dragon.

Libby Sorensen

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (BVSc, MANZCVS (E&CC))

Libby graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2009.  Since then she has gained a diverse range of experience in both general practice and emergency medicine.  In 2013 she passed her Membership Examinations in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, a keen area of interest she has developed. If Libby is not at work she is with her animals: a very special Jack Russel called Becky and two much loved horses Ruby and Gaye.

Beth Metcalfe

Veterinarian (BSc, DVM)

Beth was born in England but grew up on the Mornington Peninsula. She attended Padua College in Mornington for her high school years, and in 2019 graduated from the University of Melbourne with her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. She has special interests in antimicrobial stewardship and One Health and is keen to continue researching in this area. When she’s not at work, Beth’s hobbies include running, playing field hockey, spending time with her family and friends, and cooking/baking. She also enjoys spending time with her very special greyhound Margot.

Amy Braeckevelt

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing)

Amy is a certified nurse with over 25 years experience in the veterinary industry. She is one of our original team members, having started at the clinic when it first opened in 2016. During her career she has worked in small animal practices and worked for an ophthalmology specialist. She has also done volunteer work at the RSPCA Burwood. Amy enjoys all aspects of nursing and liaising with client, but her passion is surgery.

When Amy isn't chasing her twin boys around she enjoys yoga, photography and travelling (having lived in Belgium for two years!). She has three very special pets, two French Bulldogs named Levi and Pierre, and Shadow, a little bob-tailed black cat who was handed into the clinic as a stray kitten in early 2021.

Lauren McAuley

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Lauren is a fully certified nurse who joined the MEVV team in 2019. Due to her compassion & love for her pets growing up she always knew she would end up working with animals!

She has special interests in wildlife and avian care. During her studies she volunteered at Australia Zoo getting to work closely with exotics such as reptiles & a large range of bird species.  When she’s not working you can find her taking photos of her cavoodles or teaching her parrot new tricks.

Lauren’s interests include animal photography, walking, playing the piano & spending time with her cheeky lorikeet Birb.

Alex Pierlot

Veterinary Nurse

Alex started at MEVV end of 2020, when she moved from her hometown Geelong to live on the Mornington Peninsula with her husband. She is currently studying her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and will finish her qualification this year. Alex was a flight attendant for 11 years but decided to hang up her wings to cuddle animals instead.

Outside of work, you will find Alex in her Crossfit gym, drinking lots of coffee or spending her time going for walks with her two shepherds, Missy and Jax.

Sarah Muir

Veterinary Nurse

Sarah joined the MEVV team in 2020. She is currently studying her Certificate III in Animal Studies, and will begin her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at the end of 2021.

Sarah adores all animals big and small, having looked after a range of mice, blue-tongued lizards and tropical fish during her childhood. She spent her high school years caring for and showing sheep. Outside work, Sarah enjoys exploring the outdoors with her American Bulldog Angel, playing futsal, visiting cafes and spending time with her two cats Tabitha and Tortellini.
